Sihanoukville, referred to as SHV, is located on the southwest coastline of Cambodia, named after King Sihanouk. It is the largest seaport in Cambodia and the second largest city in Cambodia outside of Phnom Penh, the capital, and its status is similar to that of “Shenzhen” in China. Sihanoukville was built after 1950, and was established as a tax-free port in 1998 to encourage investment. During the war period, Sihanoukville was renamed as Kompong Som Port, and the name of Sihanoukville was restored in the 1990s.
In recent years, with the development of the domestic economy, its original unique natural landscape has been recognized by the outside world. Forerunners of European, American and Chinese backpackers flock here in an endless stream, and are deeply attracted by the beaches and waves here. As an emerging island tourist hotspot, its scenery and beaches are no less than those of Maldives and Palau, but because of its low consumption, it has gradually become the first choice of many leisure vacationers.
As a model of China-Cambodia international cooperation and an example of "Belt and Road" achievements, Sihanoukville is the city of hope for Cambodia's economic revival, guarding the lifeblood of the country's national economy. At present, Sihanoukville has the only deep-sea free trade port, the only large-scale special economic zone and the only oil refinery site in Cambodia. ...... Cambodian government is planning to build Sihanoukville with Shenzhen thinking, and an internationalized prosperous new city is being presented.
